Content Summary: The preeminent collector and provider of timely, relevant, and quality data about the people and economy of the United States. Large collection of census data available on-line, mostly in pdf format. Also, search the catalog for cd-roms, diskettes, tapes, maps and publications. Click on the American FactFinder for access to a variety of demographic data. Look at the American Community Survey for the latest demographic data. Go to geography for TIGER data including roads and boundaries.

Content Summary: The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), developed by the USGS in cooperation with the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN), contains information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United States and its territories. The Federally recognized name of each feature described in the data base is identified, and references are made to a feature's location by State, county, and geographic coordinates.

Content Summary: The NPS Interactive Map Center provides access to dynamic maps of the park system. Use the Map Center to find maps that meet your specific criteria and then generate custom maps to print or download. Maps are available for all the national parks and monuments but the site features park specific data for Yellowstone and Gettysburg.

Content Summary: This site offers an expanded bibliography of "gray literature" about Archeology, the full text of the Native Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and a graphical application that contains a variety of GIS maps showing national distributions of cultural and environmental resources across the U.S. by state and county.

Content Summary: GIS boundary files and aggregate tabular data are disseminated by the Minnesota Population Center as part of the National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) project. The NHGIS is a National Science Foundation-sponsored project (Grant No. BCS0094908) to create a digital spatial-temporal database of available historical US aggregate census materials. The available shapefiles on the NHGIS site represent version 1.0 of historical US files. The boundary files include historical nationwide files for states and counties from 1790-2000. In addition, census tract files are available for 1910-2000 and metropolitan areas from 1950-2000. All available historical aggregate data from 1790-2000 are also accessible through the NHGIS.

Content Summary: As part of a resident-employed photography study, residents were given single-use, 35-mm cameras and asked to take pictures of areas and special outdoor places essential to the quality of life in the Colorado Plateau. Later, they were given a follow-up survey that delved further into aspects of quality of life, special places, and uniqueness of their communities. Included in this survey was information on participant demographics.
