Annual Events
April - National Park Week
National Park Week pays tribute to the special places cared for by the National Park Service (NPS) and honors the people and organizations dedicated to accomplishing the NPS mission. Events in national parks encourage citizens to experience their local national park or travel online to a park far away. National Park Week takes place toward the end of April each year.

On the last Saturday in April, which usually corresponds with National Park Week, Friends of Acadia sponsors the Earth Day Roadside Cleanup. Volunteers are welcome; pre-registration is required. For more information, visit the Friends of Acadia website.

September - National Public Lands Day
National Public Lands Day is a hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands that Americans enjoy. In 2005 nearly 90,000 volunteers helped maintain trails, picked up trash, and performed other tasks at parks and other federal areas throughout the country. For more information about events taking place throughout the country, visit the National Public Lands Day website.

Annual Fee Free Day is celebrated as an interagency event on this day. The National Park Service, including Acadia National Park, joins the other Department of the Interior bureaus and the U.S. Forest Service to waive entrance fees. Commercial tour fees are waived; re-entry on a standardized length of stay longer than one day is allowed only with the same passenger manifest. Camping fees and interpretive program fees will not be waived. The Fee Free Day will be posted on the park's schedule of events as soon as the date has been determined.

November - Take Pride in Acadia Day
Join park staff, Friends of Acadia, and other volunteers to ready the carriage roads for winter. Each year during this event, several hundred volunteers rake the carriage roads and clear culverts and drainages to help reduce damage to the carriage roads due to rain, ice, and thaws. Take Pride in Acadia Day takes place on the first Saturday in November of each year.

Volunteers are welcome; pre-registration is required. For more information, visit the Friends of Acadia website.
