Field Guide to Algae

As you explore the shoreline in the park, you will often see algae in the shallow waters near the shore or washed up on the rocks. This field guide—developed by Sarah Hall and Joseph Stachelek for their senior capstone project at the University of Maine, under the guidance of Professor Susan Brawley—includes some of the common species you might see. The field guide is divided into four groups:

Remember to step carefully near the water's edge: rocks are slippery, and waves can be dangerous.

Did You Know?
