Acadia National Park
Lesson Plans and Teachers Guides

Educator's Guide Series
A series of guides was developed to help educators prepare their students for a visit to the park. These guides accompany the following curriculum-based programs:

  • Animals of Acadia
  • Carriage Road Explorers
  • Carroll Homestead
  • Island Life
  • Shoreline Discovery
  • Where in the World is Tuzigoot?

Each guide contains background information to assist leaders in better understanding Acadia's resources as well as the concepts and goals of each age-specific program. Pre- and post-visit activities for the classroom, plus a teacher/student bibliography, are included.

Both the Shoreline Discovery and Where in the World is Tuzigoot? guides can be purchased through Eastern National. Online versions of the remaining guides are available in pdf format:

Although there is no educator's guide for the Fire and Ice program, background information about the geology of the park is available in the Fire and Ice: Acadia's Geologic Story presentation (pdf - 2.8mb).

Did You Know?
Acadia National Park's carriage road system, built by John D. Rockefeller Jr., has been called “the finest example of broken stone roads designed for horse-drawn vehicles still extant in America.” Today, you can hike or bike 45 miles of these scenic carriage roads in the park.
