Friends of Acadia is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the long-term protection of the natural and cultural resources of Acadia National Park and its region. Friends of Schoodic, a committee of Friends of Acadia, was created to preserve and protect the natural and cultural environment of the Schoodic District of Acadia National Park; to support education and research activities; and to maintain and enhance the visitor experience. Friends of Schoodic is engaged in many of the activities that characterize Friends of Acadia's work, but with a focus on Schoodic. These activities include:

  • Helping with trail maintenance, shore cleanup, and other projects
  • Providing financial support for specific projects not funded by the park budget
  • Representing the local community’s concerns about the park and its operations
  • Establishing a core of local volunteers
