ATSDR MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT
ATSDR extends public comment period for the public health assessment for Molycorp site Questa, N.M.

For Immediate Release: April 10, 2003

ATLANTA - The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is extending the public comment period for the public health assessment of the Molycorp site near Questa, N.M.

The public comment period on the public health assessment will be extended to June 19, 2003. Members of the community who believe they are experiencing adverse health effects related to substances from the Molycorp site are asked to share their health concerns with ATSDR. Comments can be made at the following repositories:

Comments received during the public comment period will be logged and become part of ATSDR's administrative record for this health assessment. Comments received, without the names of individuals who submitted them, and ATSDR's responses to the comments will appear in an appendix to the final public health assessment. Names of those who submit comments, however, will be subject to release for requests made under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act.

ATSDR will be conducting a public meeting in summer 2003 to allow community members to talk one-on-one with ATSDR staff about their health concerns.
