To Hold Public Availability Session To Hear Health Concerns
Related to the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, Miss.
Public Health Assessment Planned

ATLANTA - The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, today announced that agency representatives will host a public availability session on Oct. 7 concerning the Naval Construction Battalion Center site in Gulfport, Miss.
The session will be held Oct. 7 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Isiah Fredericks Community Center, 3312 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Gulfport, MS 39501.
A public availability session affords community members the opportunity to meet one-on-one with ATSDR environmental health scientists to discuss health concerns that may be site-related. Community health concerns are evaluated as a part of the public health assessment process.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and
Disease Registry, ATSDR, a federal public health agency of the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services, evaluates the human health effects of exposure
to hazardous substances. Established by Congress in 1980 under the Superfund
law, ATSDR conducts public health assessments at each of the sites on the EPA
National Priorities List, as well as other sites when petitioned. Headquartered
in Atlanta, ATSDR is staffed by more than 400 health professionals including
epidemiologists, physicians, toxicologists, engineers and public health educators.
