ATSDR News
Vieques, Puerto Rico

ATSDR has been involved in the evaluation of potential health hazards related to the Navy's training activities on Vieques, Puerto Rico, since a local resident petitioned the agency to do so in 1999. Drinking water on Vieques, Puerto Rico, is safe and it is not affected by activities at the U.S. Navy's bombing range on the island, according to the ATSDR "Groundwater Public Health Assessment" released in February 2001. ATSDR is now working on assessments of the air, soil, and food-chain environmental pathways.
