International Conference on Chemical Mixtures
ICCM 2002

For Immediate Release: May 20, 2002

What: The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) organizes an International Conference on Chemical Mixtures (ICCM 2002).

The conference will bring together international academic and government researchers, public health professionals, and industry groups to exchange scientific and public health information on chemical mixtures and to address the scientific developments and progress made in the toxicology of chemical mixtures.

Where: ICCM 2002 will be held in Atlanta, Georgia at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia hotel.

When: ICCM 2002 will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, September 10-12, 2002.

Program: The program will include plenary sessions with invited speakers and breakout sessions and poster presentations that will focus on the major conference themes and the sub-topics listed below:

     Mixtures Research:

• Advances in experimental designs of simple and complex mixtures studies


• Analysis of low dose chronic and high dose acute exposure studies


• Novel methods for end point specific toxicities incorporating DNA, proteomics, and integrative research

     Mixtures Health Risk Assessment:

• Qualitative and quantitative methods for health risk assessments of mixtures
• Development of data bases to include information on toxicology of mixtures
• Identifying priority mixture combinations

     Computational Methodologies:

• Application and validation of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PBPK/PD) models
• Structure activity relationships (SAR) modeling methodologies
• The use of bioinformatics to identify toxic interaction mechanisms.
