Conference Information

“Digital Armor for the Warfighter in a Net-Centric Environment”

The Information Assurance Symposium (IAS 2009) will combine two previous IA conferences: The Information Assurance Workshop (IAWS), and the Information Assurance Solutions Working Symposium (IASWS).

The IAWS was an annual forum, hosted jointly by the National Security Agency (NSA), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Joint Staff, and the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM), bringing together leadership from across the community to address IA challenges and to encourage cross-community collaboration for addressing these challenges.

The IASWS (NSA sponsored event) brought together users, planners, and acquisition personnel to showcase IA products and services available for procurement for secure voice and data networks and to provide hands-on training for our product line. The IASWS was a forum attended by government and industry to discuss the applicability of implementing IA products and services in an operational environment.

The newly formed IAS will combine policy, governance, technology and hands-on training, under one roof. This Symposium will provide the opportunity for interaction among IA practitioners from all levels of expertise to meet, exchange information, and learn from one another. The opportunity exists for leaders to learn directly from technologists; for technologists to learn from operators; for theorists to hold discussions with implementers.

Today’s environment is increasingly reliant on net-centric capabilities to facilitate mission success. The IA Community faces significant challenges in protecting the nation’s critical information systems and ever increasing cyber vulnerabilities and threats. Because the battlespace we occupy is no longer isolated, our uniformed warfighters, as well as our first responders demand communications that are not only secure, but also flexible enough to meet the ever-changing requirements demanded by coalition operations. Track sessions will focus on the many issues faced by the IA community as we work to achieve information superiority.
