Dr. Nina Marano

Branch Chief, Geographic Medicine and Health Promotion Branch, Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, NCPDCID

 

A native New Yorker, Nina Marano, DVM, trained in veterinary medicine at the University of Georgia and in public health at Emory University. She first came to CDC in 1998 to work in the Foodborne and Diarrheal Diseases Branch and, in 2000, joined the Meningitis and Special Pathogens Branch where she was an integral part of CDC′s anthrax bioterrorism and SARS investigations. During her tenure with this Branch, Dr. Marano was the principal investigator for the Anthrax Vaccine Research Program and a significant contributor to the US National Anthrax Response Plan.

In June 2006 she was appointed Branch Chief for the Geographic Medicine and Health Promotion Branch within the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, whose focus is to promote travelers’ health and to prevent introduction of zoonotic diseases related to animal importation to the US. Dr Marano is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and is an Associate Editor for CDC’s journal, Emerging Infectious Diseases.
