John Eichwald

Team Lead, Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program, NCBDDD

 

John Eichwald, MA, is presently the Team Lead for the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program within the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. In this position he oversees various EHDI activities including collaboration with federal, national, and state agencies and organizations in assisting states and territories to develop and implement newborn hearing screening programs.

John obtained his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Montana in 1974 and his Masters of Arts in 1978 in the field of Audiology from the University of Utah. He has published in several peer reviewed journals and made numerous presentations primarily concerned with the early identification of hearing loss in newborns and of the population of children with special health care needs.

He has thirty years experience as an audiologist in public health, education, and the private sector. Prior to his position at the CDC John held several positions within the Utah Department of Health including various aspects of public health informatics including data management and analysis, telehealth, and database integration.
