Adolfo Correa

Medical Officer, Leader of the Birth Defects Surveillance Team, NCBDDD

 

Adolfo Correa, MD, MPH, is a Medical Officer at the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA, where he serves as the leader of the Birth Defects Surveillance Team, providing oversight to birth defects surveillance and research activities and supervision of staff and trainees.

Before joining the CDC in 1998, Dr. Correa was a member of the faculty in the Departments of Epidemiology and Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Epidemiology and Global Health at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. His current research interests focus on birth defects and maternal nutritional and metabolic factors, and on disparities in outcomes among individuals with birth defects.

Dr. Correa received a MS in chemistry and a MD from the University of California San Diego, and he went on to receive an MPH and PhD in epidemiology from JHU School of Hygiene and Public Health. He is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Georgia′s Terry College of Business. He trained in pediatrics at San Francisco General Hospital and at the University of California San Francisco, and in preventive medicine at JHU.
