Rachel Nonkin Avchen

Senior Research Scientist, Developmental Disabilities Branch, NCBDDD

 

Rachel Avchen, MS, PhD, is a Senior Research Scientist Officer in the Developmental Disabilities Branch.

Dr. Avchen joined CDC in 2000 as an EIS Officer and has pursued her research interests of at-risk infant/child populations. Since coming to CDC, she has focused on autism, hyperbilirubinemia/kernicterus, mental retardation, and prematurity issues. She is the principal investigator for the Branch′s Validation Study and serves as the Clinical Workgroup Chairperson for the National CADDRE study.

Dr. Avchen received her MS and PhD in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Miami.
