Public Comment Period for Anaconda Mine Health Consultation Extended

ATLANTA - The Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry has extended the public comment period for the Yerington Anaconda Mine Site in Yerington, Nev., until April 10.

The public comment period allows residents to review and comment on the findings and proposed activities in the Yerington Anaconda Mine public health consultation, a report from ATSDR.

The report finds that easy access to the site is a public health hazard. ATSDR says current barriers are inadequate to restrict access of unauthorized persons to high-hazard areas at the site. Additional conclusions in the report include:

Residents are encouraged to make comments and may review the health consultation at
South Lion County Library, 20 Nevin Way, Yerington, Nev., or Yerington Piaute Tribal Office, 171 Campbell Lane, Yerington, Nev.

Comments received during the public comment period will be logged in to the ATSDR administrative record for this public health consultation. Comments received, and ATSDR responses to the comments, will appear in the final public health consultation.
