Your Recreation Fee Dollars at Work

What, where, and how your Recreation Enhancement Act dollars being re-invested to increase the quality of recreation on the Huron-Manistee National Forests.

Increased Visitor Information and Services

Improved education and information products and services.
Developed and printed brochures to provide information about Pere Marquette River, Hungerford Lake, Pine River, and Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness.
Reconstructed visitor information boards, interpretive materials, maps, and signs at Cathedral Pines Camping Area, Thompson's Landing, Whirlpool Landing, Sawmill Point, Gabions, and Meadow Springs.
Increased staffing at our offices, visitor center, and in the field to provide information to visitors.
Increased law enforcement patrols across the forest for visitor safety and security.
Increase collection of visitor use data to assist in future grant requests.
Increase patrols on the Pine River.
Recreation Sites and Trails Maintenance, Repairs, and Improvements
Provided increased cleaning and maintenance of recreation sites across the Huron-Manistee National Forests.
Installed or replaced toilets at Hoist Lake trail system, Reid Lake trail systems, Bear Island Campground, Buttercup Campground, Dobson Bridge River Access Site, Meadow Springs, Hungerford, Walkup Lake , and Elm Flats.
Installed lantern hangers at Au Sable River dispersed camping sites.
Installed campfire rings at Blacksmith Bayou camping Area, Bear Island , Buttercup Campground, and Gabions.
Repair or replace site markers and/or fence at Bear Island , Buttercup, Gabions, and Au Sable Loop
Install additional picnic tables at High Bridge , Blacksmith Bayou, Rainbow Bend, Bear Creek, Marilla Trailhead, and Udell Trailhead.
Install trash receptacles and make regular trash pickups at: High Bridge , Blacksmith Bayou, Rainbow Bend, Bear Creek, Marilla Trailhead, Udell Trailhead, Hoist Lake , and Reed Lake .
Improve roads, parking, and/or access at Green Cottage site on the Pere Marquette River
Provided trail clearing and maintenance at Wakeley Lake trail system.
Installed additional trail markers at Wakeley Lake trail system.
Reconstruct river access trail at Cathedral Pines and Gabions.
Repaired or placed well or water systems at Au Sable Loop Campground and Hungerford Lake .
Constructed a portable washing/pumper unit to transport water and supplies for the maintenance and cleaning of dispersed camping sites.
Dredge area around boat landing at Whirlpool Landing.
Identify and remove hazards trees from recreation site across the Huron-Manistee National Forests.
Increase the number of sites snowplowed in winter including some Manistee River access sites.
