On Monday January 12, NJDOT will install construction warning signs and begin traffic signal work.

“This project aims to encourage economic development as well as provide accessibility and safety to the residents and businesses of Camden,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

The $10.5 million construction project will:

  • Widen 11th Street to accommodate left turn lanes at the intersections of Mt. Ephraim Avenue and Newton Avenue.
  • Construct an intersection at 11th Street, Memorial Avenue and Flanders Avenue eliminating the loop ramps and the Flanders Avenue overpass.
  • Convert 10th and 11th Street to two-way streets.
  • Install new traffic signals at the intersections of 10th Street and Newton Avenue, 11th Street with Martin Luther King Blvd. and I-676 ramp, 11th Street and Newton Avenue, 11th Street and Mt. Ephraim Avenue and at the new 11th Street, Flanders Avenue and Memorial Avenue intersection.

Beginning on January 24th, Flanders Avenue at 11th Street will be closed until September 2009. Route 30 westbound traffic will be directed to Linden Street, continuing on Linden Street to 10th Street onto Federal Street to Newton Avenue and on to 10th or 11th Street depending on the destination. Flanders Street traffic will be directed from 10th Street to Newton Avenue to 11th Street to Federal Street where they can take the ramp to Route 30 westbound.
