Discontinued Program
The HIV viral load performance evaluation program was discontinued in March 2006.
 
MPEP'S Global Mission
To continuously improve the public's health through ongoing improvement of laboratory testing and practices focusing on tests of high public health impact. Be a resource for encouraging accurate and responsive laboratory practices throughout the world.
 
Goals
- Provide ongoing assessment and monitoring of laboratories that provide HIV-related and Mycobacterium tuberculosis-related testing
- Develop strategies for identifying testing quality failures and practices that contribute to better test performance
- Provide monitoring of new technology
- Provide national data base of laboratory characteristics and testing practices
- Evaluate analytic accuracy in performance of laboratory tests
- Document laboratory practices in relation to published guidelines
- Ensure public confidence in the reliability of test results and the safety of the nation's blood supply
 
Objectives
- develop methods for evaluating quality in laboratory testing systems
- develop strategies for identifying and correcting testing quality failures
- evaluate the effect of testing quality on public health
