Katmai National Park & Preserve
Management

Created in 1916, the National Park Service manages over 385 different units and each unit preserves a unique story related to natural and cultural resources that have shaped our country. The mission is to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The National Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

Did You Know?
Because of lack of visitation and facilities in its early years due to its remoteness, Katmai National Monument remained without park service development until 1950. Today, that same remoteness makes Katmai a premiere Wilderness park with its undeveloped primeval landscape.
