Georgii Derluguian is a native of Krasnodar, in the North Caucasus. He first studied guerrilla war politics in Mozambique and published extensively on Southern Africa, but later in the 1990s had to re-focus on his native part of the world. Professor Derluguian teaches macrosociology and international studies since the early civilizations at Northwestern University in Chicago. Derluguian's articles and book chapters have been translated into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Ukrainian. His book, Bourdieu's Secret Admirer in the Caucasus, is published by Verso (London) in April 2004. He is now finishing the next book, A World History of Ichkeria.
