PUBLIC MEETINGS SET ON PROPOSED TRANSMISSION LINE ROUTE ALTERNATIVES

FOLSOM, Calif. —Open-house public meetings will be held next week to discuss routing alternatives for a proposed power transmission line north of Sacramento .

Scoping meetings on the Sacramento Area Voltage Support Project will be held June 5 at the South Natomas Library, 2901 Truxel Road , Sacramento , and June 7 at the Pleasant Grove School , 3075 Howsley Road , Pleasant Grove. Both meetings will run from 4 to 7 p.m.

The proposed project would include three segments: (1) building a new transmission line from O’Banion Substation near Yuba City to an area near Cross Canal , (2) building a new transmission line from Cross Canal to near Elverta Substation, and (3) rebuilding an existing transmission line from near Elverta Substation to Natomas Substation. Three possible routes have been identified for the second segment.

Western Area Power Administration is preparing a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement to address the proposed construction and operation of about 38 miles of 230-kilovolt (kV), new double-circuit transmission line. Sacramento Municipal Utility District and the city of Roseville will participate in a joint SEIS and Environmental Impact Report on the project.

Western completed the necessary environmental studies for the project in late 2003 and issued a Record of Decision in January 2004, but project funding was then uncertain.

Since then, SMUD and Roseville have provided funding for additional environmental studies.

Additional project information is available online at http://www.wapa.gov/sn/initiatives/SVS/
