Preparing Your Structure for a Natural Disaster |
Disaster Preparedness and Recovery for Historic Trees |
Disaster Plans: Are You Prepared? |
It's Their Heritage Too: Involving children in heritage preservation |
Non-invasive technologies in Archeology |
There are steps you can take to prepare a historic structure for natural disasters. NCPTT's architecture and engineering program updates information it presented at the recent Historic Natchez Conference. |
After Katrina, the toll of destruction encompassed hundreds of historic trees and their associated landscapes. Learn what to do before (inventory; condition assessment; actions:pruning, support, removal, etc.) and after a disaster (damage assessment, prioritizing tree work, etc.) to help your landscape survive. |
NCPTT's materials research program will present an overview of disaster preparedness strategies from online planning to disaster teams. There will be a demonstration of the NCPTT funded http://www.dplan.org/, an online planning tool created by the Northeast Document Conservation Center. Learn what you should do when disaster strikes. |
NCPTT's heritage education program initiated numerous projects that taught students how to document their local culture--cultures that were altered forever after the destruction of the 2005 Hurricanes. This presentation will discuss ideas for involving school children in preservation activities in the home. |
This presentation examines non-destructive methods of geophysical prospection to locate archaeological features. The discussion will highlight how geophysics can be used to target specific locations for intense scrutiny, as well as how geophysics data can be used to enhance interpretation in the absence of excavation. |
