WASHINGTON, July 9, 2003 – A rocket-propelled grenade was fired at a coalition forces' perimeter at Fallujah, Iraq, early July 9, and two more former Saddam Hussein-regime officials are in U.S. custody.
No damage was caused by the RPG attack, which occurred around 1 a.m., Iraqi time, according to a Coalition Joint Task Force-7 spokesman. No other details on the attack are available at this time, the spokesman said. Mizban Khadr Al Hadi, a senior Baath Party member, and Mahmud Dhiyab Al-Ahmad, Hussein's former Interior Minister, were both taken into custody July 8, according to a U.S. Central Command press release. Al Hadi had surrendered to coalition forces in Baghdad, the release noted, while Al-Ahmad was captured. Both men are listed on CENTCOM's "Iraqi Top 55" wanted list of former senior officials of the deposed dictator's regime. Al Hadi was no. 23 on the list, while Al-Ahmad was no. 29. The U.S. has 34 people on the list in custody. Hussein and his sons, Qusai and Odai, remain at large. The CENTCOM release said U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq are continuing the search for former members of the deposed Hussein regime. In other news, a soldier with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division died of a gunshot wound in a non-combat incident July 7, according to a CENTCOM press release.
