Abstract:

This report describes the experiences of 51 rural independently-owned pharmacies one year after implementation of Medicare Part D, focusing on those that are the sole providers of pharmacy services in their community. It details administrative issues related to Part D open enrollment and the burden placed on pharmacy owners and their business operations. The report suggests actions for addressing the challenges faced by rural independent pharmacies. The report includes tables and references.
