Abstract:

This policy brief examines the financial performance and condition of small rural hospitals after converting to Critical Access Hospital (CAH) status. It includes a financial performance analysis of 747 facilities, using ratios associated with profitability, liquidity, and debt obligation, using values from two years prior to and post CAH status conversion; and characteristics that affect financial performance and condition. The policy brief includes tables and figures.
