Abstract:

This working paper discusses small rural hospitals that applied for Critical Access Hospital (CAH) status to receive cost-based funding from Medicare. It provides a comparison analysis table of hospitals converting to CAH status with similar facilities that did not convert. The paper includes the financial incentives available to hospitals with CAH status.
