This fact sheet discusses the challenges of and opportunities for providing oral health care to children and adolescents with special health care needs (SHCN). It provides details of the many unmet oral health needs; the barriers in providing oral health care; and the opportunities available for providing oral health care through Medicaid, Head Start programs, and the Special Olympics Special Smiles programs for children and adolescents with SHCN.
