Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program

ETV Verified Technologies
The ETV Program has verified the performance of 405 innovative environmental technologies that can be used to monitor, prevent, control, and clean up pollution. See the full list of ETV verified technologies.

Baghouse Filtration Products Verified

The ETV Air Pollution Control Technology Center, operated by RTI International, has verified the performance of Donaldson Company, Inc.’s Tetratec #6255-3 Filtration Media and TDC Filter Manufacturing, Inc.’s SB025 Filtration Media, both for controlling fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions. The fabric filters were evaluated for the following parameters: outlet particle concentration at standard conditions (for PM2.5 and total mass), average and initial residual pressure drop, residual pressure drop increase, filtration cycle time, mass gain of test sample filter, and number of cleaning cycles. The reports and statements will be available soon on the ETV Web Site.

New ETV Materials Management and Remediation Center

The ETV Program is pleased to announce the addition of the new Materials Management and Remediation (MMR) Center. Battelle Memorial Institute has been awarded the cooperative agreement to operate the new MMR Center. This center will verify materials management technologies, including for recycling, beneficial use of waste materials, recovery of useful components of waste, and treatment to minimize disposal requirements (e.g., containment, volume, cost). The MMR Center will also verify technologies to remediate contaminated land and ground water, such as is found at Superfund sites and other properties where industrial or commercial activities have resulted in a legacy of hazardous constituents that limit future use of the property. Additional information on the MMR Center will be available soon on the ETV Web Site.

ETV Verification Organization Awarded DOD-ESTCP Funding For Technology Demonstration and Verification

Southern Research Institute, the verification organization operating the ETV Greenhouse Gas Technology Center in cooperation with EPA, has been awarded funding by the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) to demonstrate and verify the technical and economic efficacy of a solar thermal combined heating, cooling, and hot water system utilizing an adsorption chiller for installation at DoD sites. ESTCP supports demonstration and validation of technologies that address priority DoD environmental requirements. Technologies used to provide comfort and process heating and comfort cooling for buildings at DoD sites represent a substantial portion of energy consumption on base. Southern Research has been awarded funding to demonstrate a solar driven chiller developed by Appalachian Energy that is suitable for heating and air conditioning at a DoD installation in the Southeastern U.S. The installed package is expected to provide up to 60 tons refrigeration cooling plus hot water, reduce energy consumption, and proportionally reduce related criteria pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. The project will include independent third-party evaluation of the performance and economics of the technology by the ETV Program.

ETV Greenhouse Gas Technology Center Solicits Vendors

The GHG Center, operated by Southern Research Institute, invites vendors to participate in verification tests of the following technologies:

Micro-Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Technologies
Small, residential scale (less than 10kW) CHP technologies. These "micro-CHP" technologies are utilized to provide on-site power generation, space heat, hot water heating, and/or cooling at residences and small commercial facilities.

Contact: Tim Hansen, Southern Research (919) 282-1052

Biofuels Production Technologies
The GHG center is soliciting for technology vendors/developers, funding and demonstration partners, and stakeholders in the field of biofuels production. The center is interested in verifying the performance and benefits of a variety of technologies for the production of biofuels, as well as the environmental impacts of biofuels production and use on greenhouse gas emissions.

Upcoming Conferences and Meetings
A calendar of ETV meetings, conferences, and presentations is available on the ETV Web site. Meetings at which ETV is exhibiting and/or participating are:
February 2–4, 2009
The next meeting of the International Working Group on Environmental Technology Verification (IWG-ETV) will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, and will be hosted by the European Commission. Evelyn Hartzell will represent the U.S. EPA ETV Program at the meeting. A kick-off meeting for Europe’s new ETV international effort, Advance ETV, will also be held. Teresa Harten, U.S. ETV Director, will attend the meeting as a member of the advisory board.

Contact: Evelyn Hartzell, EPA (513) 569-7728
