Drought Management Regional Workshop
The Commission's Office of Energy Projects is initiating drought management workshops to exchange information on droughts and discuss FERC hydropower responses to drought conditions. Our first workshop was held on November 13, 2002, in Atlanta, Georgia.

The first workshop was targeted at licensee and stakeholders in the Southeast, where drought conditions have been severe this year. We invited drought experts, licensees, state and federal agencies, and stakeholders to participate. The workshop was also open to the public and interested persons.

The goals of the workshop were:
    • To gain a better understanding of drought indicator methods that may be useful for implementing earlier responses to drought conditions involving FERC hydropower projects.
    • Share information with the workshop participants on case studies dealing with drought issues at FERC hydropower projects.
    • Identify ways to improve and maintain coordination and cooperation among licensees, agencies, stakeholders, and Commission staff during developing drought
