Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen will be the keynote speaker at the re-designation ceremony and name change of United States Atlantic Command to the United States Joint Forces Command at 2:45 p.m. EDT, Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, in Norfolk, Va. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Henry H. Shelton, U.S. Army, and Commander in Chief, U.S. Joint Forces Command Adm. Harold Gehman, U.S. Navy, will also speak.
Cohen will hold a media availability following the ceremony at 3:25 p.m. EDT.
Attempts will be made to pipe the audio only portion of the ceremony and the media availability into the Pentagon Briefing Room, Room 2E781.
Because of these events, the normal Thursday DoD briefing at 1:30 p.m. has been canceled.
