MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS


In order to provide training and indoctrination for the U. S. based augmenteesidentified for duty in the European theater in support of Operation JointEndeavor, the United States Atlantic Command has set up a Joint Preparation andOnward Movement Center at Fort Benning, Georgia. This center, as directed bythe Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, establishes thecentralized joint training and indoctrination specified by the supportCommander-in-Chief for individuals destined for joint or multinationalstaffs.

The JPOMC will insure that personnel deploying to the European theater aretrained in Joint and NATO staff procedures, weapons familiarization, culturaland environmental issues, and cold weather operations.

Additionally, the center will process these individuals, insuring that medicaland dental records are complete and up to date, personnel deploymentavailability is accurate, travel and pay are correct and properclothing/equipment is issued prior to personnel departing for the JointEndeavor theater.

Training and processing begin in mid-December, taking two to seven daysdepending on the individual's background and final destination.
