MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS


The Ballistic Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Army said today that aTheater High Altitude Area Defense missile planned to intercept (hit) a targetmissile in a test at White Sands Missile Range, N.M. The THAAD flight testbegan at 5 a.m. (MST) with the launch of the Storm target missile. The THAADmissile was launched approximately five minutes later.

An intercept was not achieved. Analysis of flight data is continuing. Thiswas the first THAAD test to attempt an intercept.

The test, the fourth THAAD missile flight, was another in a continuing seriesto verify the THAAD design and the performance of the prototype systemcomponents.
