Environmental Education
The refuge offers an invaluable opportunity for students to experience and learn about the natural world.

Fishing
The refuge offers opportunities to fish for salmon, steelhead, and trout in McAllister Creek and the Nisqually River, and for shellfish and bottomfish in the tideflats. Washington State regulations apply.

Fishing from boats is permitted in waters outside the Brown Farm Dike. Fishing from the river banks is permitted only in the designated McAllister Creek Bank Fishing Area. No fishing is allowed inside Brown Farm Dike, and there is no bank fishing access along the Nisqually River.

Hunting
While the refuge is not open to waterfowl hunting, hunting is allowed, by boat access, on Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife lands adjacent to refuge lands.

Interpretation
The Visitor Center includes a bookstore, an information desk run by volunteers, a view of the freshwater marsh, and interpretive exhibits. It is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

Wildlife Observation
The refuge is open daily during daylight hours. Facilities include 7 miles of walking trails, photo blinds, and an observation deck near Twin Barns for wildlife observation and photography.

Hours
The refuge is open daily during daylight hours. Visitors must be out of the refuge by sunset. The entrance gate will be locked at sunset.

Offices are open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m.

The Visitor Center is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

The Environmental Education Center is a new facility and may be used by educational groups by appointment only. For more information, contact the Environmental Education Coordinator at 360-753-9467.

Entrance Fees
Daily fee is $3.00 per family. A Golden Eagle, Golden Age, or Golden Access Passport, Federal Duck Stamp, or an Annual Refuge Pass will admit one family. Children under 16 enter free.
