The Mississippi National Guard will dedicate its newly erected $3 million
long-term preservation facility at Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg, Miss. on
Tuesday, April 18, 1995 at 12:30 p.m. This is the first facility of this
type, designed specifically to increase readiness and enhance the mobilization
process, by preserving selected items of fully operational unit equipment in a
controlled humidity environment. The National Guard expects that long-term
maintenance and manpower costs will be offset by as much as $28 million over 10
years by using this concept of controlled preservation.
On hand for the dedication will Rep. G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery; Lt. Gen. Edward
D. Baca, chief of the National Guard Bureau; Maj. Gen. John R. D'Araujo, Jr.,
director of the Army National Guard; and Maj. Gen. James H. Garner, the
adjutant general of Mississippi. Interview and photo opportunities and a tour
of the facility will follow the ceremonies.
