Description

The Peace Corps Master's International (MI) program at Virginia Tech is integrated with the International Development Planning and Policy concentration founded in 1988 in the Urban Affairs and Planning Program of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies. Our program offers a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree in conjunction with the Peace Corps. The program is designed to prepare Volunteers for service in the areas of municipal and NGO development. Courses cover such subjects as international development policy and planning, community and economic development, non-profit organization management, non-governmental organization development, natural resources planning, pollution control, land use and environmental planning, community renewable energy systems, and urban growth management. Before beginning their Peace Corps assignments, student participants will be expected to have made satisfactory progress toward their degree. The students' Peace Corps service may provide a foundation for a thesis or major paper as determined by students and their faculty advisors. Students are required to submit quarterly reports, for which academic credit may be received. Minority participation is encouraged.
