Between four and ten credits are awarded for Peace Corps service; tuition fellowships and partial grants are available on a competitive basis.

Description

The University of Minnesota College of Natural Resources offers a Master of Science (MS) degree in Natural Resources Science and Management, with several concentrations including Biology, Ecology, and Conservation Management; Hydrology/Watershed Management; Economics, Policy, Management, & Society; Forest Products; Paper Science and Engineering, as well as many others. The degree program requires a minimum of 30 graduate credits. Students entering the program without natural resource backgrounds may need additional courses to achieve the necessary background.
Most of the students who have gone through the program have worked with the Peace Corps as Agroforestry Extension Volunteers. Other possible positions are as Social Forestry, Parks and Wildlife, Environmental Education, and Forestry Volunteers.

Participants spend two semesters on campus prior to Peace Corps service and take a full course load of 6-14 credits per semester. Four to ten credits are awarded for the Peace Corps assignment and for a research activity that will be conducted during service. After completion of the Peace Corps assignment, students will return to the University for a semester to complete the degree requirements.

Requirements

3.0 GPA; undergraduate degree in natural resources or a related degree.
