WEST NILE VIRUS (WNV)
2004 WNV Activity in the United States
Provides updated information on West Nile virus activity in
the United States. One thousand three hundred and eighty-six cases have
been reported to CDC this season as of September 14, 2004. Of the
1,386 cases, 489 were reported as West Nile meningitis or
encephalitis (neuroinvasive disease), 553 were reported as
West Nile fever (milder disease), and 344 were clinically
unspecified at this time. Thirty-five deaths have been reported.
