LASSA FEVER
This is an official CDC Health Advisory
On September 2, 2004 , results of laboratory testing performed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) support a diagnosis of Lassa fever in a 38-year-old man who died in a New Jersey hospital on August 28.

WEST NILE VIRUS (WNV)
2004 WNV Activity in the United States
Provides updated information on West Nile virus activity in
the United States. One thousand and fifty three human cases have
been reported to CDC this season as ofAugust 31, 2004. Of the
1,053 cases, 391 were reported as West Nile meningitis or
encephalitis (neuroinvasive disease), 375 were reported as
West Nile fever (milder disease), and 287 were clinically
unspecified at this time. Twenty-eight deaths have been reported.
