INFLUENZA UPDATES

HIV/AIDS and the Flu
Because influenza can result in serious illness, HIV-infected persons are recommended for vaccination. During the setting of the current vaccine shortage, people with HIV/AIDS are among the priority groups that should get flu shots this season. This fact sheet provides Q&As to guide both the administration of flu shots and antiviral medications for people with HIV/AIDS.

Press Release: CDC and States Announce Plan to Distribute 10.3 Million Flu Shots Nationwide; Public Health Officials Call Allocation Fair and Aimed at Most Vulnerable Americans
Working closely with public health officials nationwide, the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on November 9th their plans to
distribute the remaining 10.3 million doses of Aventis Pasteur influenza vaccine
to state health departments, which will then help ensure the doses reach those
people at highest risk for complications from influenza. The vaccine will be
distributed over several weeks through December and into January. For more
