HHS Awards $849 Million to Improve Public Health Preparedness
HHS press release describing Secretary Tommy G. Thompson's announcement on June 17 th about an additional $849 million in awards to states, territories, and four major metropolitan areas to strengthen the ability of government and public health agencies to respond to bioterror attacks, infectious diseases and natural disasters. http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2004pres/20040617.html
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE (EPR) WEBSITE
New Expanded Spanish EPR Site
CDC has expanded its version of the Spanish EPR site. The new site is organized and structured the same as the English version, and will make it easier for Spanish speakers to find emergency preparedness information.

WEST NILE VIRUS (WNV)
2004 West Nile Virus Activity in the United States
As of June 15, 2004 , 14 cases of WNV have been reported to the CDC.
Of the 14 cases, 5 were reported as West Nile fever, 9 were reported as West Nile meningitis or encephalitis (neuroinvasive disease) and 0 were clinically unspecified at this time.
