Volunteers-In-Parks VIPs at San Juan NHS

VIP Program Assessment Notice
The VIP Program Assessment has been completed! Paid NPS staff and NPS volunteers were surveyed and asked to share their opinions of and experiences with the VIP Program.

Program Goal
The goal of the VIP Program Assessment was to review the National Park Service's current VIP program and gather information about how to create a more efficient volunteer program and strengthen its infrastructure. By delving into the day-to-day operations at the national, regional, and local levels, the consultants discovered the strengths of program operations while also determining the areas that may require improvement. Various assessment tools were used to collect valuable information from more than 10,000 internal and external stakeholders, who were randomly selected to participate.

Steering Committee
The steering committee represented various stakeholder groups including national, regional, and local level staff, volunteers, and partner groups. The committee worked with the consultants of Walker Davidson LLC who had previous experience with the National Park Service including work with Harpers Ferry Interpretive Design Center, NPS Training and Development, and a review of the NPS Directorate.
