Box 12233 Mail Drop F3-09 Research Triangle Park, North Carolina 27709 Delivery Instructions Research SummaryThe main objective of the Structure and Function Research Group (or Collaborative Crystallography Group) in the Laboratory of Structural Biology (LSB) is to provide a resource to the NIEHS community that allows for 3-dimensional structural characterization using molecular biology, biochemistry and X-ray crystallographic techniques on biological systems of interest-protein/ligand, oligonucleotides, protein/oligonucleotides or protein/protein. The group’s major areas of research are focused on heparan sulfate/heparin biosynthesis and DNA repair, but the focus continuously expands to meet the need of future collaborators. Below is a listing of the areas covered in the last few years. Major areas of research:Lars C. Pedersen, Ph.D., heads the Structure & Function Research Group within the Laboratory of Structural Biology. Pedersen is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in the School of Pharmacy with the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1994. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in leading biomedical journals. He joined the NIEHS in 1996 as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Masahiko Negishi, Ph.D., in the Laboratory of Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology and started the Structure & Function Research Group in the LSB in 2002. |
