The Fisheries Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) has developed an exceptional information technology management team, which leads web site design and development, customer support services, IT security management, infrastructure management, and database development.

The OCIO carries out the provisions of the Federal IT regulations, policies, and guidelines pertaining to information management (IM). The OCIO provides for the efficient management of the agency's Wide Area Network (WAN) and headquarters Local Area Network (LAN); develops and maintains enterprise-wide and HQ web-enabled databases; develops enterprise software applications; ensures cost-effective long- and short-term planning and financial management of IT-related activities; conducts IT security enterprise planning, policy, and technical research; and assures effective coordination of NOAA Fisheries IT/IM with those functions elsewhere in NOAA, DOC and other Federal agencies and organizations.
