Abstract:

This newsletter examines the effects of poverty on children's health and development. It includes information on the official definitions of poverty; mediators of poverty including nutrition and health; home and neighborhood environments; parent-child interaction; and child-centered approaches to alleviate the effects of poverty. The newsletter contains articles on programs in Minnesota that promote quality childcare and healthy communities, and an overview of Baby Steps, a program with the objective to better the lives of children living in poverty. It includes figures and references.
