Kane Farabaugh at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota (Sept 2008)Kane Farabaugh is VOA's Chicago based TV correspondent who covers the American midwest. He covers everything from commodity prices and farming to politics throughout the region.

Before coming to Chicago, Farabaugh was a TV correspondent in VOA's New York bureau. Farabaugh enjoys covering news, and finds the abilty to tell a story from the heartland one of the most rewarding aspects of his job.

Farabaugh has also worked as a network affiliate TV reporter in Syracuse, New York, Charleston, West Virginia, Bakersfield, California, Tampa, Florida, and Rockford, Illinois. He's lived in South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and the Marshall Islands. From 2002 to 2006, Farabaugh was the Director of Special Projects for the American Forces Network Europe headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany.

Kane has earned over 50 awards for his work as a journalist, including the 2003 RTNDA National Security Reporting Fellowship, a 2007 and 2002 RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award and 3 Associated Press Awards including Best Enterprise Reporter. The Midwestern Region of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences also nominated him for four Emmy Awards including two Best Documentary selections. Farabaugh edged out the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and ABC News 20/20 for top honors at the 2002 South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA) Awards, where he was awarded first place for “Outstanding Story about South Asia” for his coverage of the 2001 war in Afghanistan. The late ABC News anchor Peter Jennings received the same award the previous year. 

Farabaugh currently lives outside Chicago with his wife Joanne and son Lucas.
