Lung Cancer
Frequently Asked Questions
12. Is there a risk of lung cancer from
exposure to asbestos?
Another substance that can contribute to lung cancer is asbestos.
Asbestos is used in shipbuilding, asbestos mining and
manufacturing, insulation work, and brake repair, but many products
that contain asbestos have been phased out over the past several
decades. If inhaled, asbestos particles can lodge in the lungs,
damaging cells and increasing the risk for lung cancer.
