Description:

NNFR is an organization that provides educational resources for families in need. They are now a part of the Children, Youth and Families Education and Research Network (CYFERnet). CYFERnet describes itself as a national network of land grant university faculty and county Extension educators working to support community-based educational programs for children, youth, parents and families.

Types of Information or Instruments:

They do not provide the instrument itself, but do provide a detailed description of its use and where one can obtain it. Primarily, the instruments and their descriptions are aimed at researchers and social service agencies involved in this subject matter.

Quantity of Instruments:

The site provides abstracts to 120 scales in several categories.

Quality of Instrument Descriptions:

They also offer abstracts of instruments that are arranged by categories assessing a variety of issues in children and families, such as adolescent sexuality, child abuse, parenting, violence prevention, and general family measurement.

Quality of Psychometric Information:

There is limited psychometric information. Several of the abstracts report only reliability and validity coefficients.

Scale accessibility:

Reference, ordering or pricing information is provided for the assessments. Ordering information for some abstracts are listed as "unknown."

Site provides actual scale items:

The site does not provide actual scale items.

User-friendly navigation:

The abstracts and bibliographies are presented on pages with black text on a dark gray background, which may be difficult to read.

Other types of Information:

The organization also provides a bibliography of family assessment resources in some of these subjects, as well as in family economics, welfare reform, and general evaluation. These do not necessarily focus on measurement.

Hints:

This site primarily is concerned with evaluating family issues, and therefore the rest of the site is devoted to resources and links addressing that aspect. The review only covers the section on evaluation and assessment.
