UPPER WILLAMETTE RIVER CHINOOK ESU
THREATENED

ESU STATUS AND DESCRIPTION:  Listed as threatened on March 24, 1999; threatened status reaffirmed on June 28, 2005.  The ESU includes all naturally spawned populations of spring-run Chinook salmon in the Clackamas River and in the Willamette River, and its tributaries, above Willamette Falls, Oregon, as well as seven artificial propagation programs: the McKenzie River Hatchery (Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) stock #24), Marion Forks/North Fork Santiam River (ODFW stock #21), South Santiam Hatchery (ODFW stock #23) in the South Fork Santiam River, South Santiam Hatchery in the Calapooia River, South Santiam Hatchery in the Mollala River, Willamette Hatchery (ODFW stock #22), and Clackamas hatchery (ODFW stock #19) spring-run Chinook hatchery programs.

CRITICAL HABITAT STATUS: A final designation was published on September 2, 2005 (9.7 Mb PDF), with an effective date of January 2, 2006.

PROTECTIVE REGULATIONS: Final revised protective regulations were issued for this ESU on June 28, 2005.
