Chairman Kelliher names Richard L. Miles Director of the Office of Administrative Litigation

Chairman Joseph T. Kelliher today announced the appointment of Richard L. Miles as Director of the Office of Administrative Litigation, replacing William J. Froehlich who will assume new responsibilities at the Commission.

"I believe Mr. Miles' distinguished career in serving the public interest, including his position as Associate General Counsel for Administrative Litigation, will provide OAL with effective leadership," Chairman Kelliher said. "Mr. Froehlich has served the agency well for many years. But I believe the Commission must act decisively to maintain the public's confidence in our commitment to guard against market manipulation and abuse."

Mr. Miles, who has worked at FERC for 34 years, is currently Director of FERC's Dispute Resolution Service and has served in that position since 1999. For the 10 years prior to that, he was Associate General Counsel for Administrative Litigation in the Office of the General Counsel where he performed many of the duties of the Director of OAL, including managing the Commission's trial attorneys in evidentiary hearings involving oil, gas and hydroelectric matters. Prior to that, he was an Assistant General Counsel for Electric and Corporate Regulation.

Mr. Miles received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Baltimore.
