Chairman appoints new Administrative Law Judge

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Joseph T. Kelliher announced today the appointment of John P. Dring, Jr. as a Commission Administrative Law Judge.

"I am pleased that someone with Judge Dring's legal credentials has agreed to join the Commission," Chairman Kelliher said. "We are indeed fortunate to have someone with his broad expertise and familiarity with energy law join our team of veteran administrative law judges."

Judge Dring comes to the Commission from the Social Security Administration in Miami, Florida. He also has extensive experience as a supervisory attorney with the Social Security Administration in Washington, D.C.

Prior to becoming an administrative law judge, Judge Dring served as an Appeals Officer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He brings a knowledge of energy law to his new position having supervised appeals involving, among others, the Risk Management Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Rural Utilities Service. In addition, Judge Dring has worked in private practice and served as the Manager of Regulatory Affairs for a gas transmission company.

Judge Dring served three years as a legislative assistant for former Congressman Robin Beard of Tennessee.

Judge Dring received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. Judge Dring is a Marine Corps veteran and is admitted to the bars of the U.S. District Court, the D.C. Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and in the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania.
